High-Power Bipolars Target Avionics And Radar
Sep 4, 2008 12:31 PM

Tyco Electronics M/A-COM has introduced a line of high-power silicon bipolar transistors for pulsed avionics and radar applications from 960 to 1215 MHz. The models MAPRST0912-50, MAPRST0912-350, and MAPR-000912-500S00 transistors. The model provides 50 W peak output power over that frequency range under Class C conditions with 9 dB minimum gain. The model MAPRST0912-50 transistor achieves at least 40 percent minimum collector efficiency operating on a +50-VDC supply. The model MAPRST0912-350 bipolar is rated for 350 W peak output power with at least 9.4 dB gain and 45-percent minimum collector efficiency when running on a +50-VDC supply. Finally, model MAPR-000912-500S00 is rated at 500 W peak output power with 9 dB minimum gain and 45-percent minimum collectors efficiency from a +50-VDC supply.

According to Gary Lopes, Power Hybrid Products Director and General Manager, Tyco Electronics M/A-COM, "The new devices are assembled in a hermetic, ceramic/metal package for high reliability and are optimized for Tactical Air Navigation or similar short pulse formats." He added that "the devices are characterized at 960, 1090, and 1215 MHz to ensure optimal performance across the entire avionics frequency spectrum."
