Rubidium Oscillator Is Timing Standard Dec 4, 2008 5:58 PM
Time and frequency specialist Symmetricom has unveiled its XPRO next-generation rubidium oscillator for applications in aerospace, defense, and test and measurement systems. The timing standard provides outputs of 1 pulse per second (pps) and 10 MHz. The oscillator includes an RS-232C interface for digital monitoring and control. With better than 1 x 10-11 aging performance and 1 x 10-9 frequency accuracy over a period of 10 years, this is a timing and frequency reference standard that can be used as the central reference in larger systems, such as automatic-test-equipment (ATE) installations. As Doug Lowrie, Product Marketing Manager at Symmetricom, notes: "The XPRO leverages over 35 years of proven rubidium atomic physics technology combined with advanced digital electronics architecture to provide an exceptionally stable oscillator that meets the most demanding performance requirements. Offering best in class short term frequency stability and low frequency aging, the XPRO operates for extended periods without calibration, which translates to lower cost of ownership." The XPRO is a drop-in replacement for Symmetricom’s successful Low Profile Rubidium Oscillator (LPRO). Symmetricom (www.symmetricom.com)
