Proxim Wireless Connects Dutch Athletes At Olympics
Aug 28, 2008 10:22 AM

Broadband wireless systems supplier Proxim Wireless Corp. helped the entire Dutch Olympic team stay connected with family and friends during the just-concluded 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The National Olympic Committee's (NOC's) National Sports Federation (NSF) in the Netherlands deployed Proxim Wireless ORiNOCO® AP-4000M access points at the Beijing games to provide communications for the Dutch team.

With the five-hour time difference between Beijing and the Netherlands, e-mail was the most convenient form of communication. The Internet access system was established with the help of ZCC, a Proxim valued-added reseller (VAR) based in Arnhem in the Netherlands, and Proxim distributor Anixter Netherlands. As the onsite technical specialist for NOC-NSF, Christian Baerends, noted: "Internet access and email are important services we provide to the Dutch team, and we’re pleased to be working with ZCC and Proxim, who we trust to deliver a robust and secure wireless network." Ben Huigen, the CEO of ZCC, added: "We chose the Proxim products because they are simple to deploy and we’re confident that they will not cause any maintenance issues for the NOC-NSF technical staff during the event."
