Berkna develops single-chipCMOS transceiver for GSM/GPRS apps Dec 2, 2003 12:00 PM RF Design Staff
Campbell, Calif. -- Berkäna Wireless Inc. announced what the company is calling the first single-chip CMOS radio transceiver for the GSM/GPRS cellular wireless standard. According to the company, the BKW9000 features smaller device dimensions, enhanced performance and is more cost-effective than ICs fabricated on equivalent BiCMOS and SiGe. Berkäna says the BKW9000 transceiver replaces over 35 discrete RF components with a single CMOS IC, and is built on TSMC's 0.18-micron MS/RF CMOS process. Berkäna's proprietary design technology supports multiple RF standards, including 3G, GPS, 802.11 and Bluetooth, the company says.
