Electromagnetic analysis software links with high-frequency EDA tool

North Syracuse, N.Y. -- Sonnet Software, Inc. Tuesday announced its link to Agilent Technologies' Advanced Design System, a provider of high-frequency EDA design solutions.

The Sonnet/ADS interface provides seamless translation between the ADS layout editor and Sonnet. From the ADS layout editor, designers can directly create Sonnet geometry files with automatic ports, de-embedding reference planes and multilayer structures using Layout artwork elements. EM simulations are invoked and the results incorporated into designs without leaving the ADS environment. The Sonnet/ADS interface is accessed through a menu in the ADS environment. Designers can quickly translate all or selected ADS layouts to Sonnet. Sonnet creates a new schematic instance of the circuit, with an N-port S-parameter data element in place of the portions of the circuit that are translated to Sonnet. The Sonnet simulation data is used by the ADS circuit simulator in the new circuit instance, providing full seamless integration of Sonnet and the circuit simulator environment.

"For over 20 years, Sonnet has focused exclusively on providing the highest accuracy planar high frequency EM software," said Sonnet president and founder, Dr. James Rautio. "With this focus, we have created a very accurate tool for analysis of planar circuits. To do this, we made a carefully considered decision that we would not dilute our focus by working on the entire high frequency design framework."

"We are very pleased that Sonnet is joining the ranks of EDA vendors who provide links to ADS," said Joe Civello, ADS product marketing manager, Agilent EEsof EDA. "Although the ADS environment includes an EM solution, Sonnet's new link provides customers with an additional choice for planar circuit simulation."
