GSM/GPRS power amplifier module integrates power control Dec 5, 2003 12:00 PM Anadigics, Inc. has readied a 7 mm x 7 mm GSM quad band power amplifier (PA) with integrated power control. The AWT6146 PA uses a pin-out that is compatible with Anadigics' current generation of 10 mm x 7 mm PAs, enabling its handset customers to reduce time-to-market for new platforms that adopt the smaller PA. The RF engine and power control scheme are also compatible with the previous generation, reducing the requirement for software changes and minimizing production calibration needs for GSM handset manufacturers. The new PA module features InGaP HBT technology. The AWT6146 PA measures less than 50 square mm, reducing real estate requirements by 30% compared to the previous generation. The module includes an integrated power control scheme that facilitates fast and easy production calibration and reduces the number of external components required to complete the power control function. The low-cost single-layer laminate module technology used in the AWT6146 further reduces the required number of external components. The AWT6146 provides 58% efficiency for GSM and 50% efficiency for DCS. It supports dual-, tri- and quad-band applications using any combination of the GSM850, GSM900, DCS and PCS bands. The AWT6146 is priced at $2.95 in quantities of 1,000 units. Samples are available now.
