IMS introduces millimeter wave resistors and terminators Jul 31, 2003 12:00 PM RF Design Staff
Portsmouth, R.I. -- International Manufacturing Services Inc. (IMS) announced the introduction of several product families of thick film chip resistors and attenuators characterized at the 10 GHz, 20 GHz and 40 GHz frequency bands. The high frequency response of these devices makes them ideal for hybrid millimeter wave communication circuits extending from fiber optic circuits and instrumentation applications, the company says. The resistor dimensions range from .030 inch x .020 inch to .080 inch. They are designed to be mounted face down on the circuit board or hybrid substrate. Having the resistor element within the same plane as the rest of the circuit minimizes the capacitive effects of the wraparound termination, the company says. IMS aluminum nitride power chip terminations offer 50 ohm performance well into the millimeter frequency bands. Beyond frequency response, high thermal conductivity ensures optimum power dissipation in a small package size, the company says. Metal terminations are available in platinum, silver, and gold, facilitating both epoxy and wire bond attachment. Both the millimeter wave resistors and aluminum nitride terminations are available in tape and reel, as well as in bulk.
