Motia's smart antenna technology extends Wi-Fi systems' range capability

San Jose, Calif. -- Motia has unveiled Javelin, its smart antenna product that eliminates many of the limitations commonly associated with Wi-Fi.

Featuring the company's standards-compliant adaptive beamforming technology, Javelin extends the range of Wi-Fi by as much as four times and enhances overall system performance and service quality. Javelin is the first product Motia will deliver in its portfolio of smart antenna products designed to improve various types of wireless systems.

"Adoption of wireless technologies has reached mainstream levels, but limitations in the quality of service, data transmission rates and physical range of existing systems is continuing to hold us back from the user experience we all envision," said Paul Sun, president and CEO of Motia. "Motia's goal is to make wireless data more accessible and usable for everyone, by enabling all wireless systems developers to significantly increase the range and performance of their products."

The biggest shortcoming in wireless is the differing quality of service for each user, according to Motia's press release. Users expect reliable service, meaning that to succeed, wireless companies need to make sure that their equipment will allow the highest-quality signals to reach all users -- wherever they may be.

One way to overcome the shortcomings in today's wireless products is the cost-effective implementation of smart antenna technology, Motia's release stated.

Through its adaptive beamforming technology, Motia has developed cost-effective smart antenna appliqués that can improve wireless performance in a wide variety of wireless applications--not just Wi-Fi--and can be incorporated into wireless systems without major modifications to existing products.

Javelin also improves performance for transmission as well as reception, regardless of whether it's implemented at the wired network access point, client device, or both. Wi-Fi users should be able to receive uniform quality of service, no matter their location or what equipment they are using.
