RF Micro Devices has commenced volume production shipments of its POLARIS 2 Total Radio Module for EDGE for GSM/GPRS/EDGE handsets to Amoi Electronics, a handset manufacturer in China. The POLARIS 2 Radio Module for EDGE will be used in several models across Amoi's product portfolio, including devices running Windows Mobile software that target the growing worldwide market for smartphones.

The module’s large signal polar modulation transmit architecture minimizes transmit current consumption in EDGE handsets and provides a technology migration path up to approximately 50% transmit power consumption savings over linear transmit radio architectures.
