UWB chip PHY receives official WiMedia registration Dec 7, 2006 10:53 AM
Staccato Communications' single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord product family has completed the WiMedia Alliance’s official interoperation and compatibility testing. As a result, Staccato’s Ripcord PHY has officially been “registered” and declared ready as a foundational subcomponent of a complete WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB system. Following this WiMedia PHY registration, the WiMedia Alliance will finalize a testing process for the MACs of Staccato’s solution to certify the complete platform. In the final certification step to wireless USB compatibility, the USB-IF will then conduct the Certified Wireless USB protocol tests to certify and permit the logo placement of end products based on Certified Wireless USB. This comprehensive process will guarantee interoperability between different devices in the market to ensure a good user experience. Staccato offers the Ripcord family of products based on the WiMedia Alliance’s UWB common radio platform and Certified Wireless USB. The Ripcord 3500P series is implemented using leading 110 nm digital CMOS process technology and offered as a complete System-in-Package (SiP).
