Staccato Communications, Cypress to collaborate on wireless USB
Jul 27, 2006 1:29 PM

Staccato Communications will jointly develop reference designs for the certified wireless USB market with Cypress Semiconductor. The companies are working to provide solutions based on Cypress’s wired USB products and Staccato’s single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord Device Wire Adapter solution based on certified wireless USB, which operates in the ultra wideband (UWB) spectrum and offers high-speed wireless data transfers up to 480 Mbps. The companies are developing reference designs that will offer full turnkey, pre-certified design kits including hardware, software, design files, and documentation.

Two reference designs based on certified wireless USB are now being developed by Staccato and Cypress. One is a 4-port wireless USB hub – using Cypress’s TetraHub USB 2.0 hub controller and Staccato’s single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P wireless USB device wire adapter solution. The other is a wireless USB mass storage bridge – using Cypress’s EZ-USB FX2LP family of mass storage solutions and Staccato’s single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P wireless USB device wire adapter.

Staccato’s single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P adapter allows any existing wired USB peripheral to instantly connect as a certified wireless USB device without any modifications to hardware or software. Staccato also offers a reference design kit for a wireless USB host wire adapter, which enables any host PC system to operate as a certified wireless USB host. All required hardware, software, design files, and documentation are included for a complete end-to-end solution for a truly wireless system.
