LTE initiative addresses 3G’s shortfalls Apr 19, 2007 2:59 PM
Texas Instruments (TI) has created a development ecosystem for Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology to address the challenges of supporting IP-based applications set to deploy between 2008 and 2012. An initiative of the Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP), LTE encompasses higher data rates as well as flexibility in frequency allocations that will be required for these applications. The ecosystem is intended to accelerate original equipment manufacturers' (OEMs) time to market with LTE technology. The ecosystem combine’s TI’s wireless infrastructure optimized digital signal processors (DSP), software libraries and ATCA/AMC cards from systems developers Mercury Computer Systems and Silicon Turnkey Express. The DSPs and benchmark configurations for LTE are available now. The third party development platforms are also available. The first release of the LTE software package will be available at the end of second quarter 2007. It will be updated throughout the year as the standard moves toward ratification.
