Frequency control supplier eyes mil/space markets Feb 14, 2008 11:36 AM
Aiming to extend its reach in the defense and aerospace markets, while continuing to grow in the test & measurement, medical imaging, process control and industrial applications, Vectron International has announced strategic realignment of its business. To expand the focus of its new industrial, military and space (IMS) business unit, Vectron has appointed Gregory Smolka as the new vice president of the IMS business unit. In this role, Smolka will be responsible for managing the IMS unit and growing Vectron’s strong market positions in test & measurement, medical imaging, process control and other industrial applications while reinforcing the company’s presence in defense and space markets. “Vectron has long been recognized for bringing high quality, innovative frequency control solutions to its customers,” commented Smolka. “With an application space that is expanding rapidly, driven by more and faster data transfer requirements, increased machine-to-machine communication and wireless connectivity, Vectron is well positioned to continue supporting our customers’ aggressive growth initiatives.” Prior to joining Vectron, Smolka served as the vice president of sales and marketing at Axsun Technologies, where he grew revenue at an average of 40% a year while driving the placement of Axsun’s MEMS-based optical components into industrial process control, medical imaging, communications and homeland security markets. Before Axsun, he was vice president of sales and marketing at Bookham Technologies. Smolka holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Tulane University and a Master of Science in engineering management from Southern Methodist University.
