Wisair has introduced its second-generation hub reference design, based on Certified Wireless USB. The hub offers increased range, throughput and coverage compared to Wisair’s own first generation design.

“We have invested great efforts in testing and optimizing the performance of our Wireless USB hub in real-world environments, with the key objective of delivering an excellent and robust wireless usage experience for end-users,” said David Yaish, Wisair president and CEO. “For example, we set a new benchmark for broadcasting high-definition video, at a range of 100 feet. In addition to the dramatically improved performance, we have reduced the form factor of our design, allowing it to be placed into existing wired USB hub cases, a request by many of our OEM and ODM partners.”

The new 4-port Wireless USB hub features a reduced board size of 38 mm x 93 mm, and the size of the dongle, which is the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless interface that plugs into the PC, is 23 mm x 69 mm.

“Wisair has been relentless in developing and refining its UWB chipset technology, obtaining FCC certification and working with standardization and regulatory bodies worldwide,” said Chris Kissel, analyst with In-Stat. “The company’s Wireless USB hub reference design should be particularly compelling to the varying OEM and ODM developers seeking to offer WiMedia-based Certified Wireless USB product offerings to the market as the reference design offers excellent performance and can be used in its current format.”

Wisair’s second-generation Wireless USB hub reference design incorporates the following technology: dual antennas, automatic rate adaptation, automatic radio channel selection, up to 480 Mbps data rates and LED indicators for power, association, and activity.
