Plugfest tests mobile WiMAX products for interoperability Oct 1, 2006 12:00 PM
Adaptix has tested the delivery of IP-based multimedia content over its new BX-3000 base station and SX-300 mobile terminal as part of the latest WiMAX Forum Plugfest dedicated to mobile WiMAX. The Plugfest, held in Frederick, MD, brought together Adaptix and 20 other companies to test the interoperability of products based on mobile WiMAX. “While Adaptix had participated in private multivendor interoperability tests earlier this year, this Plugfest was the first public event orchestrated by the industry association WiMAX Forum. Adaptix and the other participants have demonstrated that Mobile WiMAX is real,” said Adaptix vice president of marketing Byron Young. During the Plugfest process, two versions of the Adaptix BX-3000 base station and SX-300 mobile terminal were tested for interoperability with equipment from other mobile WiMAX systems and component manufacturers. The testing stressed compatible operation between vendors across PHY, MAC and network (IP) protocol layers, culminating in traffic-intensive user applications such as IP video being streamed over airlinks. “This plugfest demonstrates that WiMAX is a real, viable technology that will make it possible to deliver wireless Internet services in new and exciting ways, and soon, the world will have access to WiMAX Forum certified products for mobile applications, said Jeff Orr, marketing director of the WiMAX Forum.” For more information, visit www.wimaxforum.org.
