Mio Technology selects CSR’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ICs for its pocket PC May 12, 2008 11:27 PM
CSR's UniFi Wi-Fi silicon and BlueCore Bluetooth silicon have been selected for use in Mio’s PDA, the Mio P560. The P560 takes advantage of CSR’s UniFi, the industry’s highest throughput, lowest power and fastest embedded Wi-Fi technology, to allow for the easy sharing of large files. The P560 is also optimized for easy synchronization via CSR’s low-power Bluetooth silicon. CSR’s wireless technologies are behind this stylish, versatile and powerful pocket PC PDA device, which includes impressive software and GPS navigation capability. CSR has also designed UniFi to have exceptionally good throughput on portable devices using the Microsoft WinCE or Windows Mobile operating systems. Dual onboard RISC microcontrollers and quadruple QoS packet queues reduce the load placed on the host processor making UniFi the highest performance embedded Wi-Fi solution on the market. CSR’s BlueCore4-ROM is a single-chip Bluetooth and baseband device for voice and data communications. BlueCore4-ROM is extremely power efficient, requires minimal external components and is available in CSP or VFBGA packages. BlueCore4-ROM features Bluetooth v2.0+EDR of up to 3 Mbps, Piconet and Scatternet support, as well as the ability to handle extended SCO (eSCO) encoding. BlueCore4-ROM is also backwards-compatible with v1.1/1.2 devices. CSR helps OEMs bring products to market in the shortest time possible by supplying UniFi and BlueCore4-ROM with comprehensive development kits and developer support. Using the embedded Wi-Fi supplied by CSR, Mio’s P560 is able to browse the web, receive data updates, access Outlook email and much more. The P560 can even be used as a navigation device due to its 20-channel GPS receiver. The P560 comes with Windows Mobile 6 including Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile and other Windows applications including a media player, and picture viewer for all your multimedia needs. With a crisp 3.5” color LCD display and slimline design the P560 is both attractive and designed to fit in a pocket. “CSR is very happy to once again work with Mio on bringing our wireless technologies to its feature-rich products.” Neil MacMullen, Senior Vice President of CSR’s Wi-Fi Business Unit commented, “In the P560, Mio has managed to put together a very versatile device. It is an internet tablet, word processor, multimedia center and general-use handheld PC. Such a powerful device requires best-in-class connectivity that gives a strong user experience for the growing set of applications that need Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity”.
