Beceem Communications congratulated XOHM on the launch of its WiMAX service in Baltimore, noting that XOHM’s WiMAX USB modem is based on Beceem’s high-performance BCS200 chipset.

The successful service launch highlights the close collaboration between Beceem and Sprint, during which both companies worked together to optimize system performance and developed the foundation for the crucial, interoperability-based open terminal ecosystem.

“Having been at the forefront of many of the key WiMAX developments going back to the early WiBro demonstrations in Korea in 2005, I must say that I am particularly proud of seeing Beceem being a centerpiece of the XOHM launch,” said, Babu Mandava, CEO of Beceem. “In launching XOHM, the largest planned Mobile WiMAX network in North America, Sprint is taking a strong leadership position in the next-generation mobile broadband service development, and we are honored to see our chipset play an important role in enabling this historic event.”

“We are very appreciative of the significant efforts that Beceem has made to help us launch our XOHM service,” said Bin Shen, vice president, Broadband, Sprint. “As one of the WiMAX technology pioneers, Beceem has made tremendous contributions to the overall WiMAX ecosystem development.”
