Carrier-class grandmaster clock meets stringent requirements Mar 27, 2008 3:23 PM
Symmetricom, Inc. has added a new product to its broad portfolio of carrier-grade, packet-based timing and frequency solutions. The TimeProvider 5000 is a IEEE 1588 version 2 carrier-class grandmaster clock designed to meet the most stringent timing and synchronization requirements of next generation network applications including Ethernet backhaul, circuit emulation and passive optical networks (PON). TimeProvider 5000 combines the functionality of a highly-accurate, IEEE 1588 v2 Grandmaster Clock with 2.044 bps E1/ and 10 MHz/1pps I/O ports in a high-performance, yet highly compact 1RU footprint. TimeProvider 5000 is suited for deployment at radio network controller (RNC) and base station controller (BSC) sites where rack space and real estate are extremely limited. It incorporates hardware-based time stamping providing the highest level of timing and frequency accuracy over a broad range of wireline and wireless applications, said Symmetricom. According to Symmetricom, TimeProvider 5000 is currently available for trials with volume shipments beginning in third quarter. Pricing is available upon request.
