Spotlight on Automotive Wireless Connectivity

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new ultrahigh-precision Z-Foil audio resistor with a special design for increased clarity. The device provides a low typical TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C from –55 °C to +125 °C, +25°C, an excellent PCR ("ΔR due to self heating") of 5 ppm at rated power, an absolute tolerance of 0.01%, and current noise of <-40 dB.

The Vishay audio resistor (VAR), built on its Bulk Metal Z-foil technology, provides a combination of low noise and low inductance/capacitance, making it suitable for applications requiring distortion-free properties. Its special "naked Z-foil resistor" design, without molding or encapsulation, adds an additional dimension for reducing signal distortion and increasing clarity in signal processing, said Vishay.

The VAR is optimized for differential amplifiers, power supplies, and as feedback, loading, and gain resistors in high-precision amplifiers, high-end speaker systems and audio circuits, transducers, and high-fidelity audio amplifiers. It has a load-life stability of ±0.01% for 2000 hours at +70 °C; a low voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm per volt; a thermal EMF of <0.05 μV/°C, and a resistance range of 10 Ω to 100 kΩ, with any value at any tolerance available through calibration.

Other features include a fast rise time of 1.0 ns without ringing, a non-inductive (<0.08 μH), non-hot-spot design, and high ESD immunity. In fact, for increased reliability, the resistor is capable of withstanding electrostatic discharges exceeding 25 kV, according to Vishay.

Available with lead (Pb)-free or tin/lead alloy terminal finishes, the resistor is sampling now, with lead times of three weeks for production orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $4.26.
